Bitumen is a pavement surface treatment method, that protects and extends the life of roads and driveways.
A layer of liquid asphalt (bitumen) is applied to an existing surface, followed by a layer of aggregate. This process is repeated twice for a two-coat finish.
Uses
Bitumen is used for driveways without a current surface, or repairing/resurfacing existing bitumen areas.
Pioneer Bitumen offers bitumen work across the following surfaces:
Pioneer Bitumen offers chip seal services including preparation, liquid asphalt application, aggregate placement, and traffic rolling.
The existing pavement surface is cleaned of dirt, debris, and loose material. Gap metal will be applied when necessary to achieve levels and drainage.
Immediately after the liquid asphalt is applied, a layer of aggregate is spread over the surface using a chip spreader. The chips are then rolled or compacted into the asphalt.
A distributor truck sprays a layer of liquid tar followed by a layer of aggregate. This process is repeated twice to achieve super-durable roading.
A roller is used to compact each layer of aggregate into the asphalt, improving adhesion and creating a smooth, even surface.
